Along with my colleagues, I attended the ASCD conference in Boston last weekend. What a tremendous opportunity to network with educators from all across the country. It was a little overwhelming to narrow down what session to attend given all of the options available. One of the better sessions I attended was “The Essentials of Classroom Behavior Support” presented by Jessica Sprick. The theme was proactive behavior management and based on PBIS principles. She gave many useful strategies to implement at the classroom and building level. I chose to highlight this session because she showed a cartoon that has really stuck with me. It said “Arguing with students is like mud wrestling with a pig. You both get dirty but the pig likes it!”
