Common Core Standards in Writing presented by Fred Wolff and Lynna Kalna

This was a great workshop I attended last December 11th in New Hampshire. It’s very relevant to the work the district is doing on the Writing Common Core Standards. I’ll be facilitating a workshop on the 9th of January with the 6-8th staff from BMS and Woolwich. During the presentation, I will cover how the CCSS can help educators better prepare students for the writing expectations they will face in their future college experiences and careers. As educators, we need to be mindful of the audiences and format requirements of our students’ future needs. I’ve attached the notes I took on the handout provided during the workshop. I also received the book The Write Direction: A New Teacher’s Practical Guide to Teaching Writing and Its Application to the Workplace by Wolff and Kalna the workshop presenters. I’ll be reading it over vacation and will include my take-aways during my presentation to staff. I will add the book to the library’s professional development area at BMS.
