*1. Pre-conference – A Day in the Life of a Humanities-Focused Learning Expedition
Keynote – How Children Succeed author Paul Tough. Karen, Lawrence, and Ross have a copy of the book.
Northeast Crew Meeting with Kippy. We played EL bingo to interact with EL members throughout the Northeast region.
Master Class – Humanities Slice Debrief of the expedition on the railroad strike of 1877.
Master Class – How to use a great, complex, anchor text in your expedition.
Northeast Crew Meeting # 2.
Role Alike Groups / Regional leadership sessions
Conversation cafes on a number of topics; I chose CREW.
Master Class – Designing learning Expeditions That Engage Diverse Learners.
Master Class – Service: Action or Attitude?

A Day in the Life of a Humanities Focused Learning Expedition

This session began with an opening circle .
During this expedition I was to play the role of student learner – not teacher. We were sitting in groups of five. At our tables we were given a political cartoon as a mystery text and asked to study it individually for a few minutes. Field Journals had been provided for us to use throughout the expedition for recording thoughts and reflection.

– After looking at the cartoon we were to write in our journal what we thought was happening.
The next step was to discuss with our group what we all thought the cartoon was about.
A large recording form was distributed . We drew a large circle in red and were asked to write
An expert text was distributed .
